Used since the middle ages as an insect repellent, a tea brewed from the leaves of the tansy plant can be sprayed on other plants to help repel insects, and if the leaves are placed near doorways and windows, may help deter ants and mice. If placed in the compost pile, will add potassium to it.

Herb -Tansy Tanacetum Vulgare

Herb Tansy Tanacetum Vulgare. A perennial herb with a strong aromatic flavour with stunning yellow “brass button” flowers, that last over an extended period. Used since the middle ages as an insect repellent, a tea brewed from the leaves of the tansy plant can be sprayed on other plants to help repel insects, and if the leaves are placed near doorways and windows, may help deter ants and mice. If placed in the compost pile, will add potassium to it. Can be used as part of a companion planting scheme.

Cultivation Advice 

  • Chilling seeds for 2 weeks will aid germination.
  • Sow from late spring sparingly on fine seed compost and cover lightly.
  • 10-14 days for germination @ 20-25 degrees
  • Thin / transplant seedlings when large enough to handle and grow on in frost free conditions under cover.
  • Plant out from late spring when all danger of frost has passed;
  • Plant reaches 90cm height, spacing 15cm.
