Salvia Scarlet Sage Coccinea. Scarlet or Blood Sage is a very attractive annual and a haven for insects and butterflies alike. The showy flowers are a vibrant bright red. About an inch long, and arranged in loose whorls along the upright stem. Produced from early summer to the first frost. Drought tolerant, it is maintenance free and thrives in well drained soils. Easy to cultivate. Half Hardy Perennial / Annual in colder areas. Not to be confused with the annual Salvia Spledens, a tender variety commonly utilised as an annual bedding plant. 24-36 In.
Cultivation Advice
- Sow from 6-8 weeks before the last frost under cover with warmth provided.
- Optimum soil germination temperature 70-75c
- Surface sow and cover in vermiculite. Do not exclude light.
- Germination takes 7-21 days.
- Transplant seedlings to trays when large enough to handle.
- Plant out after all danger of frost has passed 12 in apart, in well drained soil, in full sun
