Cultivation advice for RADISH SAXA

  • Plant Saxa radish seeds in early spring or late summer for a fall harvest. They thrive in cooler temperatures.
  • Choose a location with well-draining soil and full sun exposure for optimal growth.
  • Ensure the soil is free of debris and well-draining. Amend it with compost to enhance fertility and drainage.
  • Saxa radishes prefer slightly acidic to neutral soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0.
  • Sow seeds directly into the prepared soil, approximately ½ inch deep and spaced 1-2 inches apart in rows. Rows should be about 12-18 inches apart.
  • Keep the soil consistently moist for successful germination.
  • Ensure Saxa radishes receive at least 6 hours of sunlight daily. They thrive in full sun but can tolerate partial shade.
  • Water consistently, keeping the soil evenly moist. Avoid overwatering to prevent issues like rotting.
  • Once the seedlings appear, thin them to about 2-3 inches apart to allow enough space for root development. Crowded plants can yield smaller radishes.
  • Radishes generally don’t require heavy feeding. However, if the soil lacks nutrients, a balanced fertilizer can be applied at planting time.
  • Use mulch around the radish plants to retain moisture and suppress weed growth. Regularly remove weeds to prevent competition for nutrients.
  • Saxa radishes mature in about 3-4 weeks. Harvest them when they reach about 1-1.5 inches in diameter.
  • Gently pull them from the soil. Leaving them in the ground too long can result in pithy or overly spicy radishes.
  • Saxa radishes are best enjoyed fresh. Their crisp texture and mild peppery flavor make them ideal for salads, garnishes, or as a crunchy snack.
