CALIFORNIA BLUEBELL FLOWERS Commonly known as California Bluebell, this annual provides a constant succession of vivid deep blue pendant shaped flowers on 50-70cm plants. A great plant for attracting bees and pollinators. The plant is adapted to poor sandy soils, dry conditions and full sun.Germination takes from 14-28 days at a temperature between12C15 C.
Cultivation Advice
- Sow in trays eary spring under glass, direct seed late in spring after frost has passed.
- Sow in trays (to prevent mixing with other seeds) on the surface of a very good fine grade seed compost adding grit / vermiculite to improve drainage, and keep lightly moist using either rainwater or tap water which is then allowed to stand for 24 hours.
- 12-15C (3-6 weeks)bull; Germination is approx. 14 -28 days
- When large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and grow on.
- When sowing directly, thin seedling to 10-15 cm between plants.
- Retnec blossoms to stimulate new flowers.
- If a few seed heads are left to ripen the plant will set seed and sow itself for the next year.
