Vermiculite Horticultural
Vermiculite Horticultural is a natural mineral renowned for its gardening versatility. This lightweight and sterile material, formed through a heating process, boasts exceptional moisture retention and aeration qualities. Used extensively in horticulture, it enhances soil structure by improving drainage in heavy soils and moisture retention in sandy ones. Often included in potting mixes, it supports seed germination, aids root cuttings, and acts as a neutral pH medium beneficial for various plants. Vermiculite’s fine texture and insulating properties make it an ideal aid in gardening for creating favorable environments for seedlings, rooting, and fostering healthy plant growth.
Cultivation Advice
1-3mm Grade: Ideal for seed covering & mixing with composts.
For aeration & water retention in seed growing mediums – mix 4 parts seed compost to 1 part vermiculite.
For small surface sown seeds, lightly cover the sown seed with vermiculite rather than the growing medium.
