Vegetables Radish Watermelon Red Meat Winter . An unusual and beautiful large winter radish also known as Red Meat. These large 2.5 – 3″ round roots are creamy white outside with green shoulders and a full central burst of watermelon rose. Flesh is crispy and mild, with a sweet flavour perfect for salads, garnishes, or cooking. The heat is in the white skin decreasing as the root matures. Approximately 55 days to maturity. Prefers cooler conditions, best in early spring and autumn.
Cultivation Advice
- Sow in early spring and again in late summer or earliest autumn. The variety does not like hot conditions)
- Sow thinly directly into a seed drill, covering seed with 1/4 inch soil, firmed down.
- Thin to 3 inches apart for fully mature roots in rows 12-16 inches apart.
- Germination in around 7 to 10 days. Keep soil moist during germination and weed free.
- The variety will not thrive in dry or during hot periods.
