Forget Me Not Myosotis Alpestris new

Forget Me Not Myosotis Alpestris new. One of the most popular filling plants for spring bedding, often seen planted in the company of wallflowers or tulips.  Excellent for ground cover and thrives in moist soils.  It is a neat little plant, forming mats of bright rich blue flowers through to early summer upon which it readily self seeds. Easy to cultivate. Hardy Biennial. 6-8 inches.

Cultivation Advice

  • Choose well-draining soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (around 6.0 to 7.0).
  • Work in organic matter, such as compost, to enhance soil fertility.
  • Forget-Me-Nots typically thrive in partial shade to full shade. Ensure they receive dappled sunlight or filtered shade for optimal growth.
  • Sow seeds directly in the garden in early spring or late summer. Press them lightly into the soil surface as they require light for germination.
  • Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during the germination period. Once established, Forget-Me-Nots are relatively drought-tolerant but appreciate regular watering.
  • Apply a layer of organic mulch around the plants to retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, and maintain a more even soil temperature.
  • Plant Forget-Me-Nots alongside other shade-loving plants to create a harmonious and visually appealing garden bed.
  • Forget-Me-Nots generally don’t require heavy fertilization. Use a balanced, all-purpose fertilizer sparingly, especially if the soil lacks nutrients.
  • Regularly deadhead spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming and prevent self-seeding if you want to control their spread.
  • Thin out overcrowded seedlings to maintain proper spacing, allowing for good air circulation and reducing the risk of diseases.
  • Forget-Me-Nots are excellent for naturalizing in shaded areas. Allow them to self-seed for a charming, spreading display.
  • Grow Forget-Me-Nots in containers or hanging baskets for a portable burst of color on patios or balconies. Ensure containers have proper drainage.
  • While Forget-Me-Nots are hardy, in extremely cold climates, provide a layer of mulch around the plants in late fall to protect them during winter.
  • Regularly inspect for pests like aphids and diseases like powdery mildew. Address any issues promptly with appropriate organic controls.
  • Use Forget-Me-Nots as charming edging plants or along borders to add a touch of elegance to your garden.
  • Embrace the self-seeding nature of Forget-Me-Nots, allowing them to naturalize and surprise you with new blooms each season.
  • Incorporate the new variety of Forget-Me-Nots into various garden designs, such as cottage gardens, rock gardens, or alongside water features for added visual interest.
  • Periodically enrich the soil with organic matter to maintain its fertility. Compost or well-rotted manure can be applied as a top dressing.
  • Pair the new Forget-Me-Not variety with native plants that thrive in similar conditions to create a habitat-friendly and eco-conscious garden.
  • Conduct a thorough spring cleanup by removing any debris or dead foliage to promote healthy new growth.
  • Create borders along garden paths with the new Forget-Me-Not variety for a whimsical and inviting pathway.
  • If your garden design allows, consider incorporating Forget-Me-Nots into rain gardens, taking advantage of their love for consistently moist conditions.
  • For regions with milder climates, experiment with late fall plantings to give the new variety a head start in the following spring.
  • Showcase the delicate blooms of Forget-Me-Nots by planting them in hanging baskets, allowing the flowers to spill over the edges for a cascading effect.
  • Use Forget-Me-Nots as a natural edging along garden beds, allowing them to gracefully define the borders.
