Corncockle Agrostemma Githago is a medium height annual (1m) with long, narrow, and softly hairy leaves. The large pinkie purple flowers are borne singly on a long stem. Long pointed sepals surround the flowers. The flowers are followed by a straw-colored flask-like seed head containing a large (3.5mm) black, rough textured seed.

Please note the seeds and plants are poisonous if eaten.

Cultivation Advice Corncockle Agrostemma Githago

  • You can sow the seeds on bare earth to the flowering position in autumn or spring.
  • Avoid sowing in winter or mid–summer. .Prefers free draining sandy loams but will grow on most types.
  • Will readily self-seed but you will need to mow surrounding plants and scarify soil in late autumn/winter.
