CARROT AUTUMN KING PELLETED A splendid reliable main crop mid-late crisp carrot, producing large, long conical roots with an even internal colour. Its excellent flavour and storage characteristics make this one of the most popular and widely grown main crop varieties attaining huge sizes if left to fully mature. Cultivation Advice for CARROT AUTUMN KING PELLETED

  • Plant Autumn King Pelleted carrots in early spring for a summer harvest or in late summer for a fall harvest. Choose a sunny location with well-draining soil.
  • Ensure the soil is loose, free of stones, and well-draining. Amend with organic matter like compost to enrich the soil.
  • Pelleted seeds are coated to enhance uniformity, making them easier to handle. Sow the pelleted seeds directly into the prepared soil about 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep. Maintain spacing of 2-3 inches between seeds in rows.
  • Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during germination. Water deeply but avoid waterlogging, as excessive moisture can lead to issues like rotting or poor germination
  • If necessary, thin the seedlings when they reach a few inches in height to prevent overcrowding. Regularly weed to minimize competition for nutrients.
  • Prior to planting, incorporate compost or balanced fertilizer into the soil. Avoid excessive nitrogen to prevent forking.
  • Monitor for pests such as carrot flies and practice crop rotation to prevent diseases. Consider using row covers or netting for protection.
  • Harvest Autumn King Pelleted carrots when they reach maturity, usually around 70-80 days after sowing. Gently pull them from the soil, being careful not to damage the roots.
  • Remove the foliage and store carrots in a cool, humid place or refrigerator to maintain freshness.
  • Consider planting carrots alongside compatible plants like onions or leeks to deter pests and enhance growth.
  • Autumn King Pelleted carrots are versatile for fresh eating, salads, roasting, soups, and canning.
  • Continuously monitor plant health and adjust care practices based on observations for optimal growth.
  • Handle pelleted seeds with care to prevent damage to the coating. Avoid rough handling or excessive exposure to moisture before planting.
  • Ensure consistent sowing depth for pelleted seeds, as the coating helps in uniform planting. Follow the recommended planting depth for optimal germination.
  • Pelleted seeds might take longer to germinate due to the coating, so ensure consistent moisture levels until germination occurs. Consider using a mist sprayer to avoid disrupting the seed’s placement.
  • The pelleted seeds might provide better uniformity in plant growth, reducing the need for extensive thinning. However, still, monitor and thin seedlings if overcrowding occurs.
  • While ensuring consistent moisture, be cautious not to overwater, which might dislodge or dissolve the seed coating. Water gently around the seed area to prevent disturbance.
  • Shield young seedlings from strong sunlight and wind to prevent drying out or dislodgement before they establish a sturdy root system.
  • Once seedlings emerge, consider supplementing with a diluted, balanced fertilizer to support healthy growth and root development.
  • Apply a thin layer of mulch around the carrots after they establish to retain soil moisture, regulate temperature, and reduce weed growth.
  • Trimming excess foliage can redirect plant energy to root growth, potentially enhancing carrot size and quality.
  • To ensure a continual harvest, plan successive sowings every few weeks, especially in cooler climates, to extend the harvest period.
  • Continuously monitor growth and adapt care routines based on plant performance, considering variations due to climate or soil conditions.
