Broccoli Waltham 29 Organic is dependable Compact & Dark Blue:Green Heads Picking the main head will help promote increased side shoot production, and this variety produces a nice size central bud followed by lots of little branchouts. ‘Waltham 29’, which was bred for cold hardiness, performs best in cooler climates and can take a frost, making it great if you plant late summer sownings. This is not the most suitable for spring, blooming in colder temperatures. Site in full sun and plant into fertile, well-drained soil with space 18-24 inches apart. Maintain an even moisture level in the soil and feed regularly with compost tea or a balanced fertilizer. While the primary heads are firm and compact, harvest them with side shoots harvested for an extended cropping period.
