Broad Bean Masterpiece Green The consistent, high yields of medium sized are simply a sailor’s delight! The heirloom legume does well in cooler areas and withstands frost so is ideal for an early spring crop. Sow seeds directly in loose, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. ‘Green Masterpiece’ beans need full sun but can accept partial shade. Spread seeds or seedlings 8-10 inches apart in rows spaced on average of 18 to 24 iches. Water soil moist but not soaking at all times during the growing season. In order to eat it while they are young and tender. Broad beans are good in your kitchen, being ideal for soups; stews salads and a whole lot more! Regular harvesting stimulates continuous production. Also look out for pests such as aphids or bean weevils and deal with them by organic methods. Grow Broad Bean ‘Masterpiece Green’ in a sunny or partially shaded spot on rich, fertile soil where any risk of frost has passed.
Cultivation Advice
Sow in the open soil as soon as it is ready, usually early Spring, on an open sunny site and preferably ground which has been manured the previous year.
Sow in double rows, 7cm (2in) deep and allow approximately 23cm (9in) between each set of double row. Double rows to be planted 23 cm(9in.) apart with a gap of 40-60cm (18-24in) before next set double row.
Keep free of weeds.
Support on exposed sites before plants reach 12 inches
Picking the beans when nice and fat still with soft seed.
