Start seeds indoors in flats for earlier plants 4 to 6 weeks before last frost and set outside when warm, after all danger of frost. Cover seeds 1/16 to 1/8 inch fine soil. Maintain soil moderately wet until the seeds sprout.
Thin or transplant 2- and up to 8-inches tall to about 10 inches apart. Transplant seedlings to individual pots indoors, and move plants outdoors once the weather is warm and all danger of frost has finally passed.
Thus a better option is to keep on harvesting leaves, this way it will help in bring new growth faster. Pinch out the pruned leaves or collect plants which are ready for harvest and either use straight away, fresh in a salad mix; or allow them to dry out into bundles / herb bunches by hanging upside down then store bad weather proof baggies.
If you’ve been companion planting, plant basil with your tomatoes and peppers… it will help them all grow! Excellent contrast with green basil, spectacular as a garnish, in salads, or for adding to basil vinegars.
