This artichoke line is selected in Italy and highly regarded for its nutty flavor, slightly sweet aftertaste that makes. it a popular choice for use around the Mediterranean Thriving in full sun and free draining soil it produces.A dense flowering.Bud formation which is beloved by both gardeners as well as cooks alike for its culinary and decorative attributes.

Cultivation Advice For ARTICHOKE ITALY-VIOLETTA CHIOGGIA

Cover seeds lightly and plant in pots under a warm.

dark environment during late winter through early spring 2 or 3 per pot.

Only keep the sturdiest seedling.

Transplant 1m apart once frosts are over, or when plants have reached 15cm.

Directly sow outside April — June into soil (when the air temperature is over 15oC)

Sow deep by half inch under soil. (best started in pots)

If no secondary heads remain to be harvest after the main artichoke is removed, snap the stem off at its base

 if there are still some that can grow on a bit longer from nodes below or above where you cut initially

snip it with pruners right up under them [image].

As they go into a dormancy in late autumn make sure to cut the plants back just above ground level and provide winter protection by mulching the crown.
